Programs Offered by Clarlen

We offer part-time morning programs for 2s, 3s, and 4s.  Children must be the target age by September 1st, and they stay in the same class all year.

Our year begins in September and continues through May. With a few exceptions, the calendar and inclement weather response follows that of the Howard County Public School System.

Registration for new students typically begins the Winter prior to the fall the child begins at Clarlen. We follow the public school model of requiring students to reach the target age by September 1st.

Children currently enrolled at Clarlen and their siblings have priority for class placement for the following year. Class formation is based on the needs of the community.

Tuition is paid in three parts: 

  • a $200 non-refundable, commitment deposit in the Winter/Spring which will be applied towards the 1st semester,
  • the remainder of 1st semester tuition in September,
  • and the 2nd semester tuition in January.  

Snacks, supplies, insurance, and most field trips are included.

There is also a registration fee: a one time $175.00, non-refundable fee paid at the time of registration.

Lunch Bunch is not available for 2 year old students

The primary goal of the 2s program is to gently introduce our youngest friends to the group learning environment. Separating from the caregivers is the first hurdle.  Following a routine, participating in group activities, and sharing are also a big part of the 2s day.  Stories, music, outdoor play, and projects make for a fun and active morning.

3yo Program

The 3s program provides a gentle transition to the group learning environment for those who did not participate in our 2s program.  A major goal of the 3s year is to build fine motor strength, shoulder and wrist stability, and hand-eye coordination to prepare our friends for cutting, writing, and other fine motor tasks required in later years.

The 4s program builds on the previous 2 years and aims to prepare our friends for Kindergarten.  Projects are chosen to continue building the muscles necessary for writing, etc. and develop the executive function skills that will help the students be successful as academic demands increase.  Our play-based approach provides the content knowledge and develops important skills and strategies to help our students be successful in kindergarten and beyond.
